Today at IPL 2022, GT vs PBKS: Struggling Punjab look to climb the ladder, to face table-toppers Titans

Table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are set to face each other in Match No.48 of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday, May 3 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.

The Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, have been on an absolute rampage and have looked head and shoulders above their opponents. Barring the eight-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the IPL newcomers haven’t done much wrong. In fact, the Titans are currently on a five-match winning streak.

Skipper Pandya missed an odd game due to injury, but has led his team from the front. Not only is he the leading run-scorer of the franchise, but also a handy bowler. Their bowlers have pretty much been up to the mark and their batters have shown nerves of steel after being put under immense pressure.

The Kings, led by Mayank Agarwal, on the other hand, are gasping for breath at eighth in the points table. They have been inconsistent to the extent that they are yet to win back-to-back matches in the championship. Their captain, Mayank Agarwal, has strained a wee bit after taking leadership duties.

Moreover, apart from the duo of Rahul Chahar and Kagiso Rabada, the rest of the PBKS bowlers haven’t quite been amongst the wickets. Jonny Bairstow’s poor run of form has also been a major concern for the Punjab-based team. If Punjab win their next game, they have a decent chance of going up to fifth.

GT – LAST 5 RESULTS: beat RCB by 6 wickets, beat SRH by 5 wickets, beat KKR by 8 runs, beat CSK by 3 wickets, beat RR by 37 runs

PBKS – LAST 5 RESULTS: lost to LSG by 20 runs, beat CSK by 11 runs, lost to DC by 9 wickets, lost to SRH by 7 wickets, beat MI by 12 runs

Mohammed Shami GT: Mohammed Shami has been one of the standout performers for the Titans in the ongoing T20 tournament. The pacer has been excellent in the powerplay, giving his team regular breakthroughs, and has been decent at the death as well. The seamer has picked up 14 wickets from nine games at an economy rate of 7.77.

Shikhar Dhawan PBKS: Shikhar Dhawan has been in excellent form for the Kings, having scored 307 runs from nine games at an average of 38.37 and a strike rate of 126.33. Even as he can put his head down and grind, the left-hander is also capable of stepping on the gas in the hour of need. If he gets going, the GT bowlers may find themselves in a bit of trouble.
